During my time here at South Carolina State University I've had the opportunity to take various courses in the area of Broadcasting Communications. I've taken social media classes, television classes, and journalism classes. However, Electronic Media Production has been one of my favorite courses! In this this class we've been able to explore different social media cites and even build our own blogs. This is a very creative class that shows you different ways you can tell a story and brand yourself.
Twitter @GetLikeBri
Twitter is one of the social media sites we utilized this semester. Twitter is great in order to see whats going on in the media, and have your own voice. I've had a twitter since 2013 and I love to log on to see the latest trending topics, videos, and even memes. I think that Twitter is a great way to stay informed and get news quickly. I love to follow E News, CNN, and various celebrities and entertainers. Some of these celebrities include, Oprah, Keke Palmer, and Drake. One of my latest tweets was about going home for the Holidays, I said, "So excited about this winter break."
In my opinion, Linked in was the most useful social media sites that we worked with in this course. This being because LinkedIn allows you to build an online portfolio and showcase your talents, assets, and job experience. Many internship and job applications request that you provide a link to your LinkedIn in page. So its imperative that students and young professionals crate a LinkedIn profile. Your profile is your online resume. I think that LinkedIn is great because it connects people on a professional level and allows them to network. I've been able to connect with some of my classmates; SC State University's President, Dr. Franklin Evans, and even my Professor, Mr. Harwood.
Prezi is like PowerPoint's cool sophisticated cousin. Prezi allows for you to make a presentation with pictures, videos and music. The difference between PowerPoint and Prezi is that Prezi has more transitions, and is a more creative way to give a presentation. I think Prezi is great in the way that it's different from your traditional boring slideshow. When I created my first Prezi in this class, it was somewhat difficult. From my experience, Prezi can be hard to grasp a hold of in the beginning but once you play around with it it get easier.
This semester I was also able to use our green screen studio and iMovie to create different videos. Our "Quick Takes" project allowed for me to talk over a video clip using the picture in picture option in iMovie. In my video project I used a clip of some of my favorite things; this included Drake, New York, and The Wizard Of Oz. I talked about why these are some of favorite people and things and what they mean to me. This was fun for me because I was able to give commentary on the clips and I thought it was a creative way to talk about them, rather than just doing a voice over.
Kizoa is a website where you can create a picture slide using graphics, music, and animation. Kizoa is a great way to make a creative and fun slideshow presentation. It's very easy and simple to use, especially for beginners. The first Kizoa project I created was a slideshow showcasing the various Bulldogs on SC State's campus. I took pictures of statues, and various things featuring the SC State Bulldog. I also did my presentation on a student body Christmas drop-in that took place on campus. Kizoa allowed me to make this presentation festive and great for the Holiday Season. In my opinion, this website is a great way to showcase pictures from events, photo-shoots, trips, and other special occasions.
Electronic Media Production II was such a fun and informative course. I appreciate everything that Mr. Harwood taught myself and class. We were able to learn about different social media sites, and how we can use them to our advantage. Using Blogger allowed for me to hone my writing skills and using LinkedIn allowed for me to update my professional profile and resume. These are just some of the things that I was able to do while being in this course. I will definitely be able to use this information to my advantage in my future endeavors. As a journalist I believe that it's important to be able to be creative, and innovative in the way that you tell a story, and this class has helped me to do that.
